Ghostbusters Ecto-1: a 1959 Cadillac Ambulance

Wanna get around town in style?  Plenty of ways to do it.  Most will likely pick their favorite exotic sports car, like a Ferrari or a Jaguar.  Others may go with vintage muscle cars, like a Shelby Mustang or the classic Dodge Charger.  But really, if you want heads to turn, try getting around in a 1959 Cadillac Ambulance Miller-Meteor Futura, the Ecto 1.

C'mon, just like Ray, Egon, Winston, and Venkman.  I think it'll be cool.

In order to rid the world (or at least New York) of paranormal terror, the Ghosbusters needed to get around.  Their ride had to match their zany job.  And they came up with the Ecto1, sometimes referred to as Ectomobile.

At first, the color for the Ecto-1 was black.  But during shooting, which mostly happened at night, it was very hard to see.  So they repainted it to white.

The Ecto 1 was made from a service vehicle used by many fire departments.  Just as interesting, is that in some towns, they used this car as a hearse.

I can't think of any day-to-day use for buying an Ectomobile.  Perhaps, join a car club for movie cars and exhibit it around.  Or simply make it part of the fleet of your car collection.

Here is a video clip of an Ecto-1 replica out and about:
