1966 Ford Thunderbird from Thelma and Louise

Thelma & Louise was an award winning 1991 movie about chicks on the lam in the American midwestern highway.  After killing a would-be rapist at a roadside bar, the two friends, Thelma played by Geena Davis and Louise played by Susan Sarandon, took off in a '66 Thunderbird to escape immediate prosecution of the law as they tried to figure out what to do next.  They were afraid that no one would believe that it was self-defense and that they'd be prosecuted as murderers. So they decided to head for Mexico, but had to take the long way around Texas.

What came next was the discovery of freedom for Thelma who lived in a smothering marriage, timid and afraid of her husband.  It was her decision to never go back to her old life that strengthened her to goad Louise into driving over the cliff instead of surrendering to the state police and FBI.

I thought that Thelma & Louise was a great movie, revolving around friendship between two friends in desperate situation who cared a lot about each other.  The spectacular cinematography in the desert highways was calling out "freedom" to the audience.

Through it all, I couldn't help but think that Louise had a really nice convertible.  A bit dusty from the action, but nevertheless, I thought the 1966 Ford T-bird was spectacular.  The car had its share of action as Thelma and Louise drove it to get away from the cops.  The high speed chase ended with a shot of the Thunderbird shooting over a cliff to end the movie.

The movie was shot in multiple locations including the deserts of California, Utah, and Colorado.  But it was suppose to begin in Arkansas where Louise worked as a waitress.  I thought it ended in Arizona at the Grand Canyon.
