For those not familiar with CW's Supernatural, it's an ongoing struggle of human hunters trying to stop hell's demons from taking over earth. Two of the hunters, the brothers Sam and Dean Winchesters, travel all over the country in Dean's black 1967 Chevy Impala to fight ghosts, vampires, werewolves, demons, and other supernatural creatures.
Because the show used a lot of rock songs mostly from the 70s, I tend to associate his ride as the rock 'n' roll car. He's also into rock 'n' roll. The cool 70s and 80s rock like Styx, Kansas, and Asia. "Heat of the Moment" anyone?
Most importantly for this post, fans adore the car whether they're car nuts or not. It's the Millennium Falcon of the show.
One of the funniest scene was in Season 4, episode 1 when Sam installed an ipod docking station in the car thinking that it was his to decorate since Dean was suppose to be spending eternity in hell. Upon Dean's mystical return from the netherworld, the first thing he did was rip out the ipod station and tossed it in the back seat, reprimanding Sam for decorating HIS car.
The video clip below is the finale for one of my favorite episode called "Nightshifter" to the tune of "Renegade" by Styx. Pretty cool song. The brothers are seen getting away from the FBI and driving off in Dean's Metallicar.
As for the car, there are plenty of reasons to love it. Designed for times before gasoline crisis, the Impala came standard with Chevrolet's 250 cu in (4.1 L) Turbo Thrift I6. But upgrades included the following small block and big block V8s:
- - 283 cu in (4.6 L) Turbo Fire V8
- - 307 cu in (5 L) Turbo Fire V8
- - 327 cu in (5.4 L) Turbo Fire V8
- - 350 cu in (5.7 L) Turbo Fire V8
- - 396 cu in (6.5 L) Turbo-Jet V8
- - 409 cu in (6.7 L) Turbo-Jet V8
- - 427 cu in (7 L) Turbo-Jet V8
