Toyota Prius in CW's Reaper

I never intend to just blog about cars seen in the big screen.  There are plenty of cool cars in the small screens as well, especially from the 70's and 80's.  Who could forget the cars in Miami Vice, Magnum PI, The Dukes of Hazard, and Knightrider?

However, one of my favorite shows today is rumored to have been cancelled, but may make a comeback in a different network.  That show is Reaper, a comedy about an ordinary guy who became hell's reluctant bounty hunter on earth because his parents sold his soul to the Devil.  It's a CW show that comes on at 8PM on Tuesdays.  I'm a sucker for shows like these, including Buffy and Charmed.

Other than being a really funny show with likeable characters, one other thing strikes me about Reaper.  The lead guy, Sam Oliver played by Brett Harrison, drives a Toyota Prius.  I missed the early episodes, but sometime in the beginning, Sam's parents felt guilty over selling his soul to the devil, so they bought him a Prius.

From what I recall, the Prius is in all the episodes.  While the car is not used in any endearing or spectacular manner, Sam and his buddies use it a lot on their way to his next bounty.  So Sam does not use the Prius to escape with his life, pick up girls, or race other cars.  The show is not about those type of situations.  But there are plenty of scenes with Sam and his friends riding in the Prius to the next demon he must capture.  And plenty of scenes with Sam and his girlfriend, Andi played by Missy Peregrym, riding next to him.

It's too bad the show is being cancelled or about to be.  I like the humor and the chemistry between Sam and his friends.  Ray Wise is excellent as the Devil, who in the second season was revealed as Sam's true father.  Rick Gonzalez plays Ben, a childhood friend of Sam.  He's the romantic of the group, getting involved in an illegal marriage-for-citizenship scam in Season 1 and a hot female demon in Season 2.  Tyler Labine is Sock, the fat funny and crazy guy in the group.  Sock is my favorite character of the bunch.

The Prius is a really nice car.  I admire the hybrid technology behind it.  My friend and business associate has one and he drives it all over the place.  We took it to Palm Springs a few months ago and I'm in awe of the gas mileage.  I believe it registered 53 miles to the gallon for the 2 hour trip.  It's quiet when starting up.  So at first, it's hard to tell when the engine is on.  It's quiet in backing out of the parking space as well.  My friend uses a choo-choo train sound to back out so people walking by get a warning.
