One of its most memorable scene was Nicholas Cage "commandeering" a yellow 1996 Ferrari F355 Spider and chasing after Sean Connery in a "borrowed" Humvee,a 1996 Hummer H1 to be exact. The two went on a wild run up-and-down the hilly streets of San Francisco, wrecking a few police cars, a bottled water delivery truck, and a city cable car that tumbled down a hill destroying the yellow Ferrari. That almost brought tears to my eyes.
Growing up in the 80's, we oogled at Ferrari's on TV, namely Magnum PI (1981 Ferrari 308 GTSi) and Miami Vice (1986 Ferrari Testarossa). Seeing one destroyed was kinda sad.
Ferraris are pretty much attention grabbers, whether on screen or in the streets. I used to see a lot of them while living in Santa Monica, California. Not so much nowadays since I live elsewhere. With red being the most popular color for these exotic cars, the F355 Spider in The Rock caught my attention because it was yellow. The low humming sound of the mid-engine V8, pumping out 380 hp, was intoxicating as it sped in-and-around the city streets.
The Ferrari F355 Spider is no longer in production. The last one was built in 1999. But Ferrari continues to make more sports car coveted by many car buffs, including me.
